Cool Way to Beat Health Care Inflation

We have been looking at cool ways to beat the summer heat plus how to prosper from change created by the economic heat of inflation. Today’s segment looks at ways to protect against rising health costs.

Salvaging our finances from economic ruin to health care brought on by bad lifestyle is vital. The western model of life has a tendency to trap us in a never ending downward cycle. From the moment we can read, watch TV and understand words we are indoctrinated in a materialistic mode that aims to get us to eat foods and live lifestyles that trap us in the insurance, pharmaceutical, managed health care trap.

Earlier messages introduced the book, “End of the Spear” by Steve Saint. Steve was a five year old American, when his father, a missionary was killed in the 50s by warriors of the Waodani community. The Waodani were one of the most remote communities in the Ecuadorian Amazon and had had little contact with the West.

Saint’s book tells an amazing story. His aunt lived with this Waodani community and took Steve in after his father’s death. He grew up with the Waodani and came to know and even love the very man who killed his father. He then left Ecuador and returned to the US where he built a successful business and raised his family. Then for various reasons he felt compelled to return to the Amazon and help this community. He packed up his wife and kids and moved back into the rain forest.

This book contains many great insights and the quote below describes how materialism can rob any human being of freedom:

“As a kid I had been impressed with the way the Waodani lived, the way they survived on their own without depending on the necessities of the outside world. The people were independent, doing things that needed to be done relying on no one but themselves. At least that is how it had been. Now it seemed that everyone wanted boots, aluminum pots, machetes and axes, blankets, clothes soaps, and salt. All these things came from outside and had to be purchased. I knew that with time the perception of need would grow to include much larger things that could not be purchased so easily; things like chain saws to cut boards for permanent houses, outboard motors for the back of dugout canoes And tin sheeting for roofs. Materialism is an insidious thing, the more you get the more you expect.”

This is too true in the West when it comes to health care. The more we are offered, the more we come to depend on a self fulfilling system. There is an ancient Chinese saying: “First the man drinks the wine. Then the wine drinks the wine. Then the wine drinks the man”. That’s the way it works in the West. We are lured into the system because our lifestyle leaves us feeling “ill at ease”. The cause of the dis-ease is ignored. The symptoms are masked. This leads to greater “dis-ease” which requires even greater depression of the symptoms. Finally, the problem forces its way to the surface in the form of a really serious health issue.

All this costs….a lot. The price is so high that many people lead lives of anxiety and stress doing jobs they dislike just so they can have “free” health insurance. This is real “freedumb”…certainly not freedom.

There are numerous ways to beat the health care heat!

One is to go where the price is less. For example, here is what one reader just shared after having dental work performed in Ecuador.

“Gary & Merri, Just wanted to drop you a note and say ‘Thanks’ for the dentist referral. My friend had all of her mercury filling replaced for $556.00. Her dentist in Atlanta had quoted her $5,800.00! She was very impressed with the technology of the office and of Dr. Jimenez Perez himself as well.

“We were disappointed when our friends told us that our favorite restaurant in Cotacachi was a private place now and we couldn't go for lunch anymore. Imagine my surprise when I discovered it is yours- El Meson de las Flores!

“If you know of anyone interested in property in Guayllabamba we are interested in selling ours-we also have a Caterpillar bulldozer available.

“If the business budget allows, Rachel and I are hoping to attend one of your courses this year. We will let you know as soon possible. Thanks.”

Really Good High Quality Low Cost Dental News

Over the past ten years we have had many of our readers, like the reader above use our dentist in Quito and enjoy huge savings. They love him because he uses the highly efficient, no pain dental laser. The problem is that Dr. Perez speaks only Spanish. Now we have found another dentist, close to our hotel in Cotacachi, who is US trained and also uses dental laser. Plus he speaks English! We have several raves already. Have developed a plan so you can get quotes in advance, come stay at El Meson and save hundreds and even thousands on your dental work as you enjoy the beauty and perfect climate there. If however you cannot beat the heat by going to Ecuador, there are other ways to maintain good healthy balance during the hot summer weather. One problem with the summer heat is that we should eat differently than we do in autumn spring and winter. See more on this at http://www.garyascott.com/archives/2002/07/01/587/index.html

However, the western lifestyle model does not account for this. Foods offered in our food system during summer are just as heavy, rich and hot as in winter. This can lead to heat buildup in the body that puts stress on our digestive and eliminative systems.

One way to balance this buildup is through acupressure. Our friend Michal Blate, director of the G-Jo Institute, one of the first publishers (20 years ago) about acupressure in the West tells us one way to balance heat build below:

“TRIPLE-WARMER, TRI-HEATER or THREE BURNING SPACES:

“In a past issue, you have learned that each of the 12 major, inner organs and glands is paired with another, so that there are six ‘organ couples’ or ‘teams’ found in the human body. This pairing of organs is something not generally recognized by Western doctors, but is a key ingredient in the practice of ‘energy medicine’ the basis of acupuncture and Advanced G-Jo Acupressure.

“Normally, these organ teams or glandular pairs have a close physical connection -- the liver and gall bladder, for example, are essentially in contact with each other. However, the Triple-Warmer and its mate -- the so-called ‘pericardium’ or ‘heart-protector’ -- are different.

“Both the Triple-Warmer and pericardium (which will be discussed more deeply in futureissues) are FUNCTIONS, rather than the actual organs or glands, themselves. Like its mate, the Triple Warmer -- also called the Tri-Burner or ‘three burning spaces’ (namely, the upper, middle and lower torso) -- is a process intimately associated with SEVERAL organ teams.

“You could say that the Triple Warmer's purpose -- as the name implies -- is to create, regulate and sustain warmth within. It does this through the process of digestion.

“That is, the body must maintain a fairly precise and narrow range of internal temperature. Otherwise, numerous symptoms -- and eventually death, if the temperature range is too extreme -- will occur.

“Of course, like all organs, glands and its companion function, this is a very simplistic explanation of the Tri-Heater -- this Triple Warmer function performs or participates in numerous other processes, too. Yet while it is not possible to completely disassociate any one organ or organ team from its companions, it is relatively easy to sense how one pair of organs or glands could more greatly influence a particular function than might another.

“Such is the case of the Tri-Heater.

“The Triple-Warmer is predominantly a triangular interaction between three of the five actual organ teams. The first ‘point’ of this vital triangle is the lung team (which includes the colon or large intestine): This team controls the temperature and ‘digestion’ of air, our most vital ‘food’.

“The second of the three components of this digestive triangle is the stomach and spleen team (including the pancreas). Their connection with the digestion of food is more apparent, at least in the stomach's case.

“Less is known about the spleen and its conjoined pancreas, at least by Western medical science. Doctors occasionally even remove the spleen from surgical patients ... which would horrify traditional energy doctors! The spleen and pancreas -- actually a single gland to energy doctors -- are considered to be the ‘home’ of the ego or sense of self, among its (or their) many other uses.

“The final point of this special triangular interaction is the liver/gallbladder team. Even in Western medicine, the liver, alone, is thought to be responsible for dozens of biochemicals and crucial bodily functions.

“The remaining two organ teams -- the heart/small intestine and the kidney/urinary bladder -- are less involved with digestion than with other functions, such as circulation of bodily fluids and the responsibility for one's sexual drive. But all organs and glands involved with the intake and processing of food in any form are at least indirectly affected by the Tri-Burner function.’
