Breathe…: Million-Tree Global ReLeaf Project

American Forests’ 2007 Global ReLeaf campaign will plant a million more trees this year in its 500 projects across the United States and internationally. About 90 percent of all contributions replant trees in urban areas and forest restoration projects here, with the rest replenishing habitat in 21 other countries.

At $1 a tree, with a $15 minimum donation, the program has succeeded in planting more than 25 million trees through grants, corporate sponsors and individual donors. Individuals and communities also are encouraged to start their own Global ReLeaf project by planting trees around their homes and businesses.

Trees help clean earth’s air and water, filter polluted runoff, slow global warming and erosion, and provide wildlife habitat. Trees shade buildings and cool the atmosphere. And they accomplish this while beautifying neighborhoods.
