Help Your Brain Battle Stress with These Natural Supplements

Two people standing in front of water with eyes closed and arms extended, palms facing out, reducing stress

November is Mental Health Awareness Month. This often-overlooked topic is more important than ever. Studies have found an increase in reports of panic attacks in 2020-2021. Nature's Lab wants you to have the tools you need to overcome your stress.

We all respond a little differently when we reach a period of increased stress. Many signs of increased stress include feeling overwhelmed, difficulty sleeping, mood swings, and difficulty focusing. Sometimes, people get to a point where they shut down and are unable to complete tasks altogether.

You can do many things to get out of the cycle of stress and give your brain the support it needs to help you. So, before reaching that point of a panic attack, try some of these tips and supplements.

Actionable Steps for Better Mental Health

Green Time

Green time, in a nutshell, is spending time in nature. Many studies have shown that green time improves mood and an overall sense of wellbeing. It is a great way to get away from screens and refocus the mind. Whether you take a walk on a trail or do some light reading under a tree, it's green time as long as you are outside. Your brain will thank you later.

Practice Meditation

Meditation is one of the most studied methods of reducing stress and resetting your mind. We could all use a little reset, don't you think?

The problem with meditation is it can be tough to do at first, especially if it is new to you. Lucky for us, many apps can help guide you. Many yoga studios do classes on meditation as well, if a hands-on method is more your style.

Start by focusing on your breath for 5 minutes a day. This can make a huge difference and can be repeated throughout the day if needed. Remember, you must train your mind like you would a puppy. It takes time, but with regular practice, you will notice a difference in no time.

Move It

Any movement! Whether you go to the gym, take a walk, or dance naked in your living room. It doesn't matter. When you move your body, your brain floods with neurotransmitters that make you feel good. The more joyous the movement, the better it works.

Some spiritualities believe that when we don't move our bodies, energy becomes stuck. To improve our psychological state, we must first release that stuck energy. This is why in yoga, we do meditation after the poses.

There are also some supplements you can take that help support your brain combat increased stress.

What Supplements Can You Take to Support Your Brain?

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is a powerful herb. This herb is an adaptogen and helps your brain cope with stress. In particular, it may help with the stress hormone cortisol.

Some people who take Ashwagandha report improved energy, while some report feeling calmer. It seems to act as a counterweight to your stressors. For those who shut down when stressed, you may get more energy from Ashwagandha. The opposite might be true for someone who generally has a more jittery feeling when stressed.

The benefits don't stop there. There is some research indicating it may help reduce inflammation. More research needs to happen on this fantastic herb to understand its full power.

If you feel stressed and have a hard time sleeping, this natural supplement might be able to help with that.
