Fulcrum Osteopathic Wellness Clinic is owned and operated by Dr. Rebecca J. Bowers, an osteopathic physician board certified in neuromusculoskeletal medicine and osteopathic manipulative medicine. As well as caring for patients at the Fulcrum Osteopathic Wellness Clinic, Dr. Bowers also is an assistant professor of OMM at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Spartanburg, SC; and she serves on the board of the South Carolina Osteopathic Medical Society.

Osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) is a form of medicine that involves the use of hands-on manipulation techniques (OMT) to address areas of dysfunction in a patient's body. All osteopathic physicians receive some training in OMM, but not all osteopathic physicians treat their patients with OMT. There are many different types of OMT that can be used depending on the physician and the patient. Many people have found OMM to be helpful in relieving pain, improving physical performance and maintaining optimal health.

Dr. Bowers uses an eclectic, gentle form of manipulation incorporating many different types of manipulative techniques. Some of the manipulation methods she utilizes the most are myofascial release, neurofascial release, neuro-ocular release, fascial ligamentous release, balanced ligamentous tension, balanced membranous tension, ligamentous articular strain, facilitated oscillatory release, somatoemotional release, myofascial cupping, muscle energy, counterstrain, cranial sacral and joint play. The type of manipulation used depends on the patient and the nature of the problem that needs to be addressed.

What Is An Office Visit Like? In many ways, it is similar to the type of visit you would expect when seeing any other doctor: the reason for your visit will be discussed, a physical exam performed, and a treatment plan will be developed to help address your needs. The main difference is there will be a more in-depth examination of your neuromusculoskeletal systems combined with the ability of Dr. Bowers to use her knowledge of functional anatomy and expertise in hands-on manipulation to help find and treat areas of your body that are not moving as well as they should be (for example: tight muscles or decreased mobility of joints). Treatment usually consists of hands-on manipulation, instruction on appropriate stretches and exercises, suggestions regarding diet and lifestyle choices, and occasionally recommendations for lab tests, imaging studies, medication, durable medical equipment, or referral to another healthcare professional.
